Aloo Gutook from Indian State Uttarakhand

Aloo Ke Gutke is a Pahadi-style jeera aloo. A regional dish from the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is a simple potato fry recipe without onion, garlic.

  • Potato - 2

  • Green chili - 2

  • Coriander leaf - 2 tsp

  • Ginger - 1/2 inch

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp

  • Chili powder - 1 tsp

  • Cumin seed powder - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Oil - 3 tsp


  1. Wash and boil potatoes for 3 whistles, peel the skin and keep aside

  2. In a motor - pestle , add coriander seeds, ginger, coriander leaf, green chili, grind

  3. Then add chili powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt as per taste and grind to coarse paste, keep aside

  4. In a pan add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chili and allow them to crackle

  5. Then add coarse masala paste to it and sauté until its aromatic

  6. Then add chopped potatoes to it and mix well

  7. Roast the potatoes until aromatic

  8. Serve hot
