Dal Pitha

Bihari Dal Pitha Recipe is a popular rice flour dumplings in Bihari Cuisine. Pithas are either stuffed with sweet or spicy filling. There are different varieties of Pithas. Bihari Dal Pitha is prepared using fresh rice flour and spicy masala lentil filling. Pithas served along with Hari Dhaniya ki Chutney, Tomato Chutney or Mint Chutney can be a delightful starter or a specialty dinner option.

Ingredients:

  • Chana dal(SOAKED) - 1 cup

  • Rice flour - 1 cup

  • Pepper - 1 tsp

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

  • Green chili - 3

  • Ginger - 1/2 inch

  • Garlic -3

  • Salt - 1 tsp

  • Boiling hot water - 1 cup

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak chana dal for 2 hours

  2. In a mixing bowl, add rice flour with salt and mix

  3. Pour boiling water into the flour and mix, cover and set for 5 minutes

  4. Then knead them to form a soft dough

  5. In a mixer, add drained soaked chana dal, pepper, cumin, green chili, ginger and garlic, turmeric powder and salt and grind to a coarse consistency. Transfer to the bowl and keep aside

  6. Take a small size rice flout dough and roll out thick and make a cup shape

  7. Fill the chana dal masala stuffing into it and make like boat shape by pressing the corners

  8. Keep the dal pitha into steamer pot, and steam for 15 minutes

  9. Serve hot with tomato chuney
