Gooror Payash

Nolen Gurer Payesh Recipe is a simple, delicious Assamese dessert made with rice, milk, bay leaf and date palm jaggery.


Payesh is made with special rice called Gobindobhog rice, which has a special aroma in itself which makes it taste even more delicious and sweet. However, you can also use common basmati rice or whichever is easily available.

Ingredients:

  • Rice - 1 cup

  • Milk - 2 cups

  • Nuts chopped - 1/2 cup

  • Jaggery powderd - 1 cup

  • Cardamom - 2

  • Bay leave - 1

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak rice for 1 hour

  2. Boil milk, to this add soaked rice and mix

  3. Add cardamom and bay leaf to the boiling milk rice

  4. Add chopped nuts to it cook

  5. Cook well until rice cooks mushy

  6. Now add powdered jaggery to it and give a mix and off the flame

  7. Serve hot
