This is a soulful, comfort food and all time favourite of the Assamese. However there are many different types of pitikas made from different vegetables, dry fish, boiled eggs and small variety of fish called puti mass. These pitikas are served as a side dish with rice along with other dishes.

Total time : 35 minutes
Masoor dal - 1 cup
Green chili - 2
onion - 1
Coriander leaves - 1 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 1 tsp
Wash and soak masoor dal overnight
Drain the soaked water, put the masoor dal on clean kitchen towel
Tie around the corners of the kitchen towel, make like a pillow
Keep this dal bundle into boiling water and steam for 15min, the dal will be cooked too soft
Transfer the cooked dal into the bowl
Add chopped onions, green chili, coriander leaves , salt as per taste and oil
Mix all well
