Patat Diya Mas

Patat Diya Mas is one of the simplest Assamese dish, which has few flavorful ingredients and can be cooked faster. Patat Diya Mas mean fish steam in banana leave.

For this recipe small size river fishes are used.


Note: Since I couldn't get fish while making this recipe I had used prawns, when you try this recipe please use fishes

Ingredients:

  • Fish / Prawns - 1 cup

  • Onion - 1

  • Green chili - 3

  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Chili powder - 1 tsp

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp

  • Banana leaf - 1

  • Sesame oil - 1 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Wash the fishes or prawns thoroughly, in this add chopped onions, green chili, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chili powder, lemon juice and salt as per taste

  2. Mix all well

  3. Wash the banana leaf, place the mixed masala fishes or prawns on the leaf

  4. Fold the leaf from four corners and tie it with thread

  5. Now add sesame oil on hot tava and place banana wrap on top and cover

  6. Steam them in low flame

  7. Flip the wrap and cook other side for 10 minutes each side

  8. Serve hot with rice
