Bhindi Ka Salan from Indian State Uttar Pradesh

Bhindi ka Salan (Tangy Okra Curry) is a tangy and spicy dish. This rich gravy is made without using much oil unlike the traditional recipes where okra is fried and then added to the gravy.

Ingredients: 

  •  Ladies finger - 1/4 kg

  • Onion - 1

  • Ground nut - 4 tsp

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Sesame seeds - 2 tsp

  • Coconut - 1/4 cup

  • Tamarind juice - 3 tsp

  • Chili powder - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4

  • Salt - as per taste

  • Oil - 3 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast, groundnuts, sesame seeds and coconut, cool down and grind to smooth paste, keep aside

  2. Add oil in a pan, shallow fry ladies finger until its 80% cooked, strain and keep aside

  3. In the same oil, add cumin seeds allow them to crackle, then add onion and sauté until soft

  4. Now add grounded masala to it and sauté them well until aromatic

  5. Then add chili powder, turmeric powder and salt as per taste and mix well

  6. Pour tamarind juice to it and mix

  7. Add required water and boil for 10 minutes

  8. Then add fried ladies finger to the gravy and cook for 10 minutes again

  9. Serve hot
