Erachi Varutharacha Curry - Kerala

Varutharacha Mutta Curry Recipe is a popular Kerala curry recipe. The aroma of roasted coconut ground powder, coconut oil, enriches the meat gravy’s flavor in an awesome manner.

Erachi Varutharacha Curry

Ingredients:

  • Mutton - 1/4 cup

  • Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch

  • Cloves - 5

  • Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp

  • Pepper - 5

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup

  • Onion - 1

  • Tomato - 1

  • Green chili - 2

  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp

  • Chili powder- 2 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

  • Salt - as per tatse

  • Coconut oil - 2 tsp

Instructions:

  1. In a pan dry roast cinnamon, cloves, fennel, pepper, cumin seeds until they pop, then add grated coconut to it and roast until brown

  2. Cool them and grind it to a smooth paste and keep aside

  3. In a pressure cooker, add coconut oil, sliced onion and saute it until soft, then add ginger-garlic paste, slit green chilis and mix until raw smell leaves

  4. Now add chopped tomato to it and mix well

  5. Add chili powder, turmeric powder and salt as per taste and mix well

  6. Now add washed mutton to the sauted gravy and mix well

  7. Add 2 cups of water and cover and cook for 5 whistle

  8. Once the pressure is out, add the smooth grinded masala paste and mix well

  9. Boil for 5 minutes and off the flame

  10. Serve hot with Rice
